Jason Cruz Choptoon – Revisited

April 22, 2015 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedge  Jason Cruz  is one of my favorite artists workin’ today, and back when I had the opportunity to  interview him for the site, the Choptoon I created for it was somethin’ that turned out pretty cool. Since then, I’d teamed up with Motornation.tv to bring you the Doom Cycle channel, but I couldn’t bring Jason’s video along because we used a Led Zeppelin track for the music. “Hey Page, can I use ‘Good Times Bad Times’ for this animated chopper ‘toon I’m workin’ on?” Haha, yea, like that’s gonna happen.

So to get this thing aired, the music had to go, and for awhile I was really stuck trying to find a replacement. How the fuck do you follow up one of Zeppelin’s signature tracks, right? But then I was talkin’ to Daniel over at Riding Easy Records, and he said ya gotta check out Slow Season, one of the bands on the label. Sure ’nuff, first track I heard, “Sixty-Eight”, blew me away. It was fuckin’ perfect! Hard, mid-tempo, bluesy, and with that authentic boogie I hoped Jason would love. If ya haven’t grabbed their album “Mountains” yet, Riding Easy Records just released a second edition in an assortment of flavors. Grab it!

With the perfect track in hand, it was time to trim it up, drop it in, tweak some stuff to line it all up, and… wait a sec. I could do that scene better now. This bit should be longer. That’s not smooth enough. What if I animated more stuff, like forks compressing, knees waggin’, and pot leafs swingin’? Maybe I should include more artwork, and animate stuff that didn’t move last time? Hell yea! Gonna start this baby from scratch.

So here it is. Free to enjoy as often as you’d like over the next 24 hours before it heads over to the Doom Cycle channel on Motornation.tv. Hope ya dig it as much as I had puttin’ it all together.

Man, I should revisit some of the other videos too.

Music by Slow Season – “Sixty-Eight”. They appear courtesy of Riding Easy Records. Grab the vinyl from Riding Easy Records or get it digitally on iTunes.

Rise of the Doom Cycle tees!

March 24, 2015 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedge Here’s the full HD Choptoon to get you acquainted with the first pair of shirts ever offered by Doom Cycle! The first half is a riff on the design “Ritual“ by artist Matt Wilkins, while the second  takes on “Astronauta“ by artist Luis Mayer. After you’ve seen the film, buy some shirts! The sales from these two will allow me to keep bringin’ ya badass designs by some of the raddest artists walkin’ the Earth.

I’d like to extend a HUGE thanks to Ripple Music for the use of the killer track by the band Mos Generator! Head on over to Ripple to grab their album “Nomads“, and stuff your cart with albums by all the other rad bands on their label. You can swing by Ripple‘s Bandcamp page to check out all the bands before ya buy. Killer stuff!

Doom Cycle Tees!

March 18, 2015 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedgeJust got word that the first ever Doom Cycle tees by artists Matt Wilkins and Luis Mayer are printed and headed this way! Grab ’em on here while ya can! Both are 5-color prints with a discharge base, 100% cotton black tees, and printed neck tags. All profits go to printin’ more rad shirts, like this one by uber-cool dude David Paul Seymour

These five-color prints use a discharge base to keep the design nice and thin, so it won’t make ya sweat while you’re rippin’ up the hot summer streets. The shirts are black 100% cotton tees, and feature a custom printed DC shirt tag so you’re neck won’t get the itch.

Thanks for your support!

Heavy Clothing – Propaganda 1

February 12, 2015 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedge I’m really stoked to announce that I’ve teamed up with Heavy Clothing for three animated shorts, the first of which you can see below! Heavy is without a doubt my fave clothing co., so it’s been a fuckin’ trip puttin’ this first one together. The artists Zac Doom brings to the table are the best dudes around, and to have the opportunity to animate their work is insane. If that wasn’t enough, Zac also brought in the band Mothership off the Ripple Music label to provide all the killer music for these films.  With all these rad folks on board, how the hell can ya fuck that up? Seriously, click on all those links and you’ll see for yourself that this crew is the real deal.

Some of the artist you’re seein’ in this flick are Scott Trerrotola, Mike Mastrangelo and David Paul Seymour (both of whom I’ve had the great fortune of speakin’ with), and also Matt Wilkins (who’s interview is right around the corner). Once the films are complete, you’ll be able to catch a one-film special-edition on the Doom Cycle channel at Motornation.tv which will feature all three films tied together with brand new footage! It’s gonna melt your mind!

Doom Cycle on Motornation.tv

February 5, 2015 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedge Really stoked to announce the debut of the Doom Cycle channel this past February 1st on Motornation Network‘s Motornation.tv! Motornation.tv is a lot like Netflix, but the content is focused on bikes, hotrods, and kustom kulture.

The dudes behind it are Meditation 4 Madmen, the same folks who put together all those badass Born Free Show videos so ya know it’s gonna rock! It’s also available without any region restrictions so no matter what country you’re in you can get it. You can read more about it on the mighty Chop Cult, and while you’re there make sure to create an account if you aren’t already signed up (Doom Cycle‘s been a member for years).

Here’s a rad teaser to give ya a taste of what you’re gonna find. Super stoked at the opportunity to share the airwaves with all these fine folks!
