Ed Ryan the “Envelope King”

November 25, 2014 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedge Artist Ed Ryan has been called “The Envelope King” ’cause most of his rad art is drawn on the front of an envelope. For years, they’ve been published in the mail section of countless biker mags, but if you wanted to own an Ed Ryan original yourself, you were shit outta luck. That is, unless you opened your mailbox and were shocked to find a hand-drawn envelope from Ryan himself. He was known to surprise people he dug with one-off pieces of art, but never took commissions… until now!

If you’d like your bike drawn up by the man himself, or would like to surprise your husband, wife, or bud with a picture of them and their bike, drop Ed an email at: EddyRyanArt@hotmail.co.uk

Shawn McKinney

November 24, 2014 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedge When he’s not wrenching on his bikes, Shawn McKinney can be found hunched over his art table, knocking out work that distills his love for simpler times and outlaw values. He’s been featured in the book Motorcycle Graphics: Outsider Art, Graphics and Illustration, which I’ve covered HERE, and he’s also a member of The Arbor Collective, “… a growing cooperative of designers, artists and friends, whose shared goal is building rideable and wearable things from the best stuff possible.”

Like a worn out pair of old boots you just can’t part with, McKinney’s work has stories to tell. Like the day you found that dinged up tank at the swap meet which pushed a long stalled project back into motion, or the time you finally got to meet that old biker down the road who you grew up watching ride past your house. Shawn has an appreciation for the stuff that came before us. The stuff our older brothers or fathers turned us on to, and to the stories that have been passed down from one like-minded soul to the next. But the best stuff dudes like Shawn share with us is that those days we long for are still around, if only we slowed down to take a look.

Scoot Malone

November 18, 2014 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedge Artist Scoot Malone from Sacred Arts Co. in Nashville can lay down ink and paint with the best of ’em. If you dig Hal Robinson’s work, check out the lines on his piece “Choppers Want You Dead”. Scoot’s got that flow we all love Hal for, but he pulls it off without stepping on any toes. Scoot also has a knack for the ladies. Have you seen his chicks yet? Damn! Such attitude and expression coming off that brush, and you know his babes don’t take shit from nobody!

Scoot also lays down some rad pin-striping and his signs are super classy, so if you’re looking to add some respectability to your ride or shop, Scoot’s got your ass covered.

Check him out on Facebook or Instagram.

Nik Gernert’s ‘Him and Her’

November 17, 2014 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedge Artist Nik Gernert just released some A4 prints of his latest piece ‘Him and Her’. His work is just plain freaky, and you can spot his work from across the room. The dude’s got such a unique style! Fun, weird, and everything looks like it has fur stuck to it. My kinda stuff!

Here’s some more cool stuff in his shop that you can grab too:

David Gant

October 24, 2014 by Tim Granda

DC-tiny-wedge It’s always a trip to discover a new artist that you really dig. Someone who’s work ignites your brain and sends shock waves through out your system. You could be having the shittiest of days, and then in an instant, all is right as rain. Such was the case when I stumbled upon the work of artist David Gant while reading a post by artist Mike Mastrangelo’s on his Instagram page.

Word is, Gant also has an upcoming cover in the works for a future issue of Show Class Magazine, which isn’t much of a surprise. The dudes at Show Class have an uncanny ability to spot talent, and Gant has his fair share of it. Check out a few examples of his work below, stop by his site to see more, and keep your eyes peeled here on Doom Cycle for the latest news on artist David Gant.
