Adi Gilbert is an illustrator / designer based in Bristol with a mad passion for motorcycles, BMX, and skateboards. He’s the man behind 99SECONDS, and you’ve no doubt seen his work for Sideburn Magazine and their event posters like Dirt Quake and Rollerburn. His list of clients is long and impressive, yet he still manages to find the time to also run Folklore Brand with George King. It’s a really cool clothing line inspired by tales of myth, creatures, nature, old machinery, and motorcycles. This man keeps busy!
Gilbert’s interest in art began at a young age from reading comics like 2000AD and Commando, but it wasn’t until he left University with a science degree that his fascination with art became a passion. After witnessing all the unique artwork being created within the skateboarding scene, his desire to start drawing and painting again grew like a wild fire, leading him to abandon his career to pursue a new path in art.
Part of Gilbert’s appeal lies in his ability to project his enthusiasm for the subject matter through his art. His love for screen prints, vintage advertisements, old comic books, and propaganda posters is evident in his design choices, his use of color, washes, and his beautiful line work. Gilbert also loves to drop us in the middle of the action, leaving us scrambling to keep from getting run over.
If you’re looking for some killer art to liven up your home, office, or shop, Gilbert has quite a few signed prints available on his site 99SECONDS. As busy as he is, he’s always up for doing new stuff, so if you’re looking for some custom work give him a shout.
